🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Ken Burrows🌟
Ken has been volunteering with us since around 2022, back when Foodbank was operating between the library and PNC and his commitment to helping others hasn’t slowed down since.
What Ken enjoys most about volunteering with us is simple: helping people and hopefully making a difference in their lives. To him, community is all about connection; saying hello, sharing a smile, and people helping people.
Through volunteering, Ken says he’s gained something truly special: friendships within the community.
And here’s something you might not know about Ken—volunteering has been a huge part of his life.
šŸš’ CFA volunteer firefighter for 35 years (now retired)
ā¤ļø Australian Red Cross in emergency catering and as a First Aid Officer for 20 years (now retired)
šŸ Speedway Fire & Safety Officer, now a Pit Marshall at Bairnsdale Speedway (still going strong!)
Thank you, Ken, for your incredible dedication, kindness, and lifelong service to the community. We’re so grateful to have you šŸ’™

🌟Volunteer Spotlight: Karen Mahoney🌟
Karen has been volunteering for around 8 months with PNC through the Foodbank program, as well as St Vincent de Paul’s Business Centre in Bairnsdale—and her compassion shines through in everything she does.
What Karen enjoys most about volunteering is helping others feel that they’re not alone. For her, it’s all about the smiles, the stories, and the shared joys that come from connecting with people.
To Karen, community means this: we all come from different walks of life, but together, we shine as one.
Through volunteering, Karen has learned something deeply meaningful—she is not alone, and that giving, sharing, and helping others brings a sense of fulfilment like nothing else.
And here’s something you might not know about Karen, she has a lifelong soft spot for snails! As a child, she says she once lined them up (we’ll leave that story there!), but today she’s a vegetarian who gently taps a snail’s shell three times so it retreats safely inside before she carefully moves it out of harm’s way šŸŒšŸ’š
Thank you, Karen, for your kindness, heart, and the joy you bring to our community. We’re so grateful to have you.
